The Oak Barrel will lead into this year’s Sydney Whisky Fair with a range of stand-alone masterclasses ahead of the 26-27 August event (public service announcement on the final ticket release here…). While we’re a regular host of whisky tastings and masterclasses, we’re pulling out all the stops to bring you some intimate events ahead of the Fair itself.
Today we’re firing the starters gun on our first event of the Whisky Fair festivities with a masterclass with Western Australian distillery Limeburners aka Great Southern Distillers Monday 18 July. Ahead of their appearance at Whisky Fair 2016, Founding Director Cameron Syme will be presenting a range of their premium expressions – and a couple which are yet to hit the market.
Not only are they yet to hit the market, but there’s two whiskies we didn’t know existed before today’s announcement.
To summarise the whiskies listed in full below, there will be two cask strength whiskies, two mixed grain and two peated expressions. These expressions will be different to the whiskies that the distillery plans to showcase at Whisky Fair, some of which are yet to be bottled.
Based in Albany, WA, (although they’ve now a presence in Margaret River as well) Limeburners has been one of the most celebrated and awarded (list available here) Australian whisky distilleries of the modern era. Distilling both single malt expressions and ‘American-style’ grain whiskies, they are about to bring a range of new expressions onto the market – which we’ll be given an exclusive preview of at this masterclass.
It is a rare treat to have members of the distillery on the east coast and Cameron returns to The Oak Barrel with a range of goodies.
